Self-introduction

Hi, I'm Emily Chen. I'm an English major. I’m a junior in Soochow University. I like reading, swimming, cooking, and baking cookies. The book I read recently is “My Not So Perfect Life”. I had been a tutor and had two students. One was a junior high school student, another was a high school student. The subjects I taught were Math and English. I like swimming because I don’t like sweating. Therefore, swimming is a good choice for me to do some exercise and not to look like a person sweating like a pig. Since I entered the university, I also love learning Japanese. Because of abundant resources in school, I have many methods to improve my languages. This is why I like the English department of our university.
My CALL experience is from my junior high school. At that time, my English teacher asked us to listen to the attached CD in English magazines. Because we had a weekly listening test and examinations of everyone’s note on book, we needed to listen to those CDs to finish our assignments. After being an English major student, I spend more time on CALL. For example, because of some courses, I have to use some foreign news website to look up some current events to prepare presentations.

My Autonomous English/Language Learning Plan

In this semester, I've learned a lot of useful online learning tools and websites which can improve my English ability in the fields of reading, listening, writing, and speaking. My learning plan for English will first focus on reading and writing, and then listening and speaking. Especially practice speaking, vocabulary, and grammar. First, to understand more content and advance my speed of reading, I will use AWL and some news websites. AWL can increase my vocabulary, so this is a basis that I must know the words in particular amount of words and be familiar with the common vocabulary. After getting ready for that, I will go to the websites, like CNN and BBC, to read extensively to connect with the world and to know more things. Because of the Internet development, reading those foreign news websites is not limited anymore. We can download many apps on our cellphones and then read on the MRT or the bus.
